چکیده

Security processors are used to implement cryptographic algorithms with high throughput and/ or low energy consumption constraints. The design of these processors is a balancing act between flexibility and energy consumption. The target is to create a processor with just enough programmability to cover a set of algorithms—an application domain. This paper proposes GEZEL, a design environment consisting of a design language and an implementation methodology that can be used for such domain specific processors. We use the security domain as driver, and discuss the impact of the domain on the target architecture. We also present a methodology to create, refine and verify a security processor.

Application Software, Domain-Specific Languages, and Language Design Assistants

While application software does the real work, domain-specific languages (DSLs) are tools to help produce it efficiently, and language design assistants in turn are meta-tools to help produce DSLs quickly. DSLs are already in wide use (HTML for web pages, Excel macros for spreadsheet applications, VHDL for hardware design, . . .), but many more will be needed for both new as well as existing ap...

Architecture design methods for application domain - specific integrated computer systems Juha - Pekka

The role of the single computer inside application-specific integrated circuits is changing with the increasing capacity of semiconductor technology. The system functionality can be partitioned to a set of communicating application domainspecific computers instead of developing the most efficient general-purpose computers that fulfil all kinds of computing needs. The main design challenges are ...

FPGAs for the Masses: Affordable Hardware Synthesis from Domain-Specific Languages

Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) have the ability to be configured into applicationspecific architectures that are well suited to specific computing problems. This enables them to achieve performances and energy efficiencies that outclass other processor-based architectures, such as Chip Multiprocessors (CMPs), Graphic Processing Units (GPUs) and Digital Signal Processors (DSPs). Despite ...
